Production of compost fertilizer with plant and food waste in the yard and garden

As mentioned earlier in an article (Link 1&Link 2), one of the tasks that Optiwee suggests is to make compost fertilizer from food scraps and plant and organic waste. We can implement this idea if we have access to a yard or green space and a garden or forest. With this method, first of all, we have done the separation of recyclable and wet waste at home.

Also we will have access to an organic and non-chemical, rich and complete source of fertilizer to strengthen the soil of house plants or trees. In this video we will see how this fertilizer can be produced in the garden.

Reduce food waste

This idea is not complete until we first reduce the amount of food we throw away. That is, we must first minimize the amount of food waste. Change your lifestyle and cook less food and then try to eat less on the plate when you eat.

We can also prioritize the leftovers of every meal we put in the fridge and turn it into another meal as soon as possible before it spoils. With these methods, the amount of food waste will be reduced. By doing so, we will undoubtedly help a lot in preserving the environment.

First, consider a bucket with a lid at home. This bin must have a door that does not allow the smell produced by the accumulation of wet garbage or insects to enter.
Then put leftovers and unusable foods or plant residues such as fruit skins, bread, bones, vegetables, eggshells, tea or coffee grounds, etc. in this bin.

In an outdoor place like a yard or garden or forest, etc., make a small hole with a depth of about 50 cm (be sure to enclose the hole and put warning signs).
Take the bucket with you whenever you can go to that place and empty the contents into the hole.

Then, using a shovel, spray the soil onto the wet surface so that it completely covers the surface of the waste. This will help the material to decompose faster and, of course, prevent the spread of bad odors in the environment.
Do this each time to fill the hole. Eventually, depending on the situation, 6 months to 1 year later, take out the contents of the hole. you will notice that a rich, complete and uniform organic fertilizer has been created and you can use it to enrich various plants.

Compost or fertilizer? What’s the difference? Which one should you be using in your yard or garden? Or should you use both? Everyone who is interested in growing their own plants wants to create a healthy garden environment. To keep plants growing as vigorously as possible, many gardeners consider using compost and fertilizer. Compost is an all-natural organic material to improve the quality and tilth of your soil, while fertilizer can be either organic or chemical, and contains specific elements in exact ratios that plants can use to grow. link
